Sneak Peek: Kids in Action at KCA!
When we say kids take the lead at Kid’s Corner Authors, we mean it. This month’s young writers didn’t just tell a story—they cracked a case wide open.
Meet The Clue Collectors, a mystery-solving duo brought to life by a group of second graders in one of our latest KCA workshop. Their mission? Solve the case of the missing blue pencil sharpener.
It all started with a classmate named K-Dot, who was panicking over his missing sharpener. The kids gathered to brainstorm: Who would take it? Why? What clues might be left behind?
Let’s just say the ideas came fast—some silly, some surprising. There were disagreements over plot twists and what the "villain" should do, but what came out of the chaos was gold.
From a trail of green paint leading to the art room… to pencil shavings by the coat closet… to a class prankster with suspiciously green hands—every clue was pieced together by the students. They built suspense, added humor, and worked as a team to bring the mystery to life.
And the ending? Completely their own.
“Fine, you got me!” said Barney, the mischievous classmate in the story—and yes, that line was completely kid-created.
“I loved coming up with our story as a team—it felt like we were making something big!”
– 9-year-old author, KCA participant
The best part? Every student wrote their own page and created artwork to match. The final book wasn’t just a story—it was a celebration of teamwork, imagination, and the joy of storytelling.
